Who We Are
Our Mission
Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.
The Girl Scout Promise
On my honor, I will try:
To serve God* and my country,
To help people at all times,
And to live by the Girl Scout Law
The Girl Scout Law
I will do my best to be honest and fair,
friendly and helpful,
considerate and caring,
courageous and strong, and
responsible for what I say and do,
and to
respect myself and others,
respect authority,
use resources wisely,
make the world a better place,
and be a sister to every Girl Scout.
*The word "God" can be interpreted in a number of ways, depending on one's spiritual beliefs. When reciting the Girl Scout Promise, it is okay to replace the word "God" with whatever word your spiritual beliefs dictate.
Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington
Founded in 1912 by Juliette Gordon Low, Girl Scouts has grown from a small group of 18 girls meeting together in Savannah, Georgia to the national organization it is today, serving more than 4 million girls and adults in the United States and in 90 countries throughout the world!
Seeking to serve Every Girl, Everywhere, Girl Scouting is committed to diversity and inclusiveness. We strive to provide all girls with the skills and experiences they need to gain Courage, Confidence & Character, and to learn how to Make the World a Better Place.
Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington was formed on October 1, 2008 through the merging of Girl Scouts of Western Rivers, Winema, Santiam and Columbia River Councils. As a part of a a national initiative to create councils that are better equipped to meet the needs of girls in today’s fast-changing world, the realignment process has formed one high-capacity Girl Scout council serving approximately 20,000 girls in Oregon, and Clark and Skamania Counties in Washington. This historic transformation is meant to modernize the iconic Girl Scout organization and focus on leadership development for girls in the 21st century.
Our council prides itself on offering a diverse range of programs, aimed at welcoming and encouraging participation by girls with varying interests, ethnic and language backgrounds or life challenges. Financial assistance is available.
We invite you to take some time to explore our website and learn more about all that our council has to offer the girls and adults in our community. Should you have questions we are always eager to assist you. Visit our contact page for more information.
