Council 101

Please READ THE INFORMATION ON THIS PAGE carefully before clicking the training links at the bottom of the page.

This required course must be completed before working with the girls.

This online version of Council 101 is available for volunteers in the legacy Council, Columbia River Council, and those volunteers who joined us from Silver Sage Girl Scout Council and Girl Scouts Eastern Washington & Northern Idaho.  All other volunteers, please check the appropriate legacy Council website for how this course is offered in your area.

At this time, you should have already:

  • Completed the Adult Registration/Application & sent to the Council office in a sealed envelope

  • Been notified that you have cleared the background check and interviewed by a volunteer in your VISTA or a Council staff member (depends on volunteer position) & been appointed as a volunteer

If you have completed the steps above, you are ready to take Council 101 online! BEFORE getting online, please make sure you:

  • Have received the “New Troop Packet” from your VISTA Adult Learning Coordinator or Chair. You will need the materials to take the online version.
  • Are using Microsoft Internet Explorer to take the course.
  • Have the recommended minimum computer speed of 900 MHz and at least 128 MB Computer Memory.  It is highly recommended that you have DSL or high speed internet. Dial-up users can use the course, but download will be slow and certain features may not work effectively. There is a dial-up version online which allows you to download the course to your computer’s hard drive, making it easier. However, if you still find this difficult, you can request an in-person orientation with your VISTA Service Team (usually taught by the Adult Learning Coordinator).
  • Have Flash software.  If you don’t have Flash, you will need it to take this course. To download a free copy, go to http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash
  • Take the optional ‘how to’ section called “Introduction to eLearning” if you are not comfortable on the computer.  It will be extremely helpful.
  • Track your progress when taking the course! Our tracking software does not enable you to bookmark. The course is divided in to four sections to make it easier to return. Keep track of which sections you have finished. Also, if you stop in the middle of a section, make sure to note the slide number so you can quickly and easily return to where you left of in the course.
  • Please note this correction to slide 17 in Section 1, the Portland Service Center Store hours have changed to Mon-Fri 10 AM - 5 PM, Sat 10 AM - 2 PM.

Thank you for volunteering to make a positive difference in the lives of girls in our community. Good luck & have FUN!
